How to Get to Raja Ampat from Hong Kong Fast and Easy

How to Get to Raja Ampat from Hong Kong

The easiest way is by flying to Soekarno-Hatta Cengkareng Airport in Jakarta, Capital City of Indonesia. There are several airlines that serve a direct flight from Hong Kong to Jakarta, such as Garuda Indonesia, China Airlines, and Cathay Pacific. The flights take approximately 5 hours which costs around IDR 4 million. However, flying with China Airlines may be more expensive which costs around IDR 6.3 million.

Flying from Jakarta to Sorong Indonesia

After you arrive in Jakarta, the next step on how to get to Raja Ampat from Hong Kong is continue your journey to Sorong. There are flights available from Soekarno-Hatta Cengkareng to Domine Eduard Osok Airport in Sorong. There are Batik Air and Garuda Indonesia that serve flight to Sorong Indonesia directly.

It takes around 4 hours 15 minutes to fly from Soekarno-Hatta Cengkareng to Domine Eduard Osok. It costs around IDR 2.5 million if you fly with Batik Air and about IDR 4.5 million with Garuda Indonesia. Once you arrive in Sorong, you’re getting closer to Raja Ampat although you still have to transfer to another transportation method. Your next journey is from Sorong to Waisai, the gate of entry to Raja Ampat.

From Sorong Airport to Waisai

Waisai is a town in the west of Waigeo Island in Raja Ampat Islands, Indonesia. It is the capital of Raja Ampat Regency and become a point of entry when you’re visiting Raja Ampat. Although it is mainly used as a stopping point for tourists before continuing their adventure to the rest of the islands, this town also has Raja Ampat Hotel, Raja Ampat dive resorts, beaches, and many more. So, you can stop by at this island to see what this island offers you.

There is a small airport in Waisai which is reachable by plane from Manado and Sorong. However, only a small plane with limited capacities can land here. Susi Air serves flight from Manado to Sorong but only operates twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday Additionally, since this airport is still being developed, there are not many facilities available. So, make sure to bring along snacks and drinks for those time when you’re waiting for your flight.

Another alternative is going to Waisai by ferry. There are three ferry companies that operate every day to Waisai from Sorong and vice versa. They are Bahari Express, Marina Express, and PT. Fajar. The ferry departs from Sorong Port at 9 am and 2 pm every day. However, you should pay attention to the schedule and always recheck with your accommodation or information center. That is because the ferry can be delayed or suddenly canceled without prior notice.

Another alternative is using a speedboat to Waisai. There is a separate dock that rent a speedboat to Waisai. However, note that this method will be far more expensive. You might want to find other persons to ride the speedboat with you so that you can divide the cost. Another thing you should consider is that going to Waisai by using speedboat will be really bumpy. This means of transportation might not be suitable for those of you who get seasick easily.

Arrive at Waisai

When you arrive at Waisai, that means you have step your feet on Raja Ampat Islands. With such a long journey, you can rest for a while in this town. There are accommodations available that you can use for a while before exploring the Raja Ampat Islands. You might also want to explore this island first before exploring other amazing sites in Raja Ampat.

However, if your hotel or resort is located on other islands, you will have to transfer to another island and rent a boat. Another way is by setting up a pick-up service. Most resorts and hotel in Raja Ampat have pick-up service you can use. Just arrange the time with your hotel and inform them when you arrive at Sorong Airport.

Its rate depends on the lodging policy. Make sure you ask about the cost of the pick-up service with your hotel or resort. You don’t want the driver overcharged you, do you? Sometimes there are cheating drivers that will charge you more than it should be. Report this to the hotel management if it happens to you.
